Depends on your speed, the traffic, the weather, but around 4 hours is my average.

A702/M74/M6/M61 would be the route I would take. I did Edinbugh-Preston last year which was about three and a half hours, and there wouldn't be much difference for Edinburgh-Manchester, just shy of four probably.

Not sure if the alternate A1/M62 route would be any quicker. Probably not.

I know from Endiburgh to Newcastle, it's about 3 hours by bus. Sure, there was some stopping in there so that would affect the time some. Also, I'm not sure how far Newcastle is from Manchester.

it took me 4 hours on a dircet train stright from leeds, so i usually add another hour or so on top of that to get my estimate, but take caution to the raod blocks and weather and also the time of day and avoid rush hour.
