Yes, it's been impossible since 7.30am UK time for me.
I also have been informed that a few Live Messenger IM servers must be down as some people have been unable to sigh in.

You are not alone. have not been able to access mail for over 3 hours.
keep getting message they have a higher than normal usage.
yet, when I checked the network status it told me all was working well.
dont know your location but here in northern Illinois, I cant get mail.
