Hi. The series is the rather excellent "Charmed", the band covering the Smiths song for the title sequence is "The Psychedelic Furs". They also did "Pretty in Pink" for the film of the same name, which was their biggest UK hit (being a US band). If you want more of them, I recommend "Forever Now" and "Mirror Moves" as probably their best albums (though neither has the track you are talking about). Cheers, Steve.

the name of the show is CHARMED. theme tune is HOW SOON IS NOW sung by LOVE SPLIT LOVE who covered the original track by THE SMITHS in the early 80's and was also used as the theme track for the movie THE CRAFT.
the cast of the show were:- Holly-Marie Combs (Piper haliwell), Alyssa Milano (Phoebe Hailwell) and Shannen Doherty (Prudence haliwell aka Prue). Shannen left the show after falling out with Alyssa (apparently) and was replaced by Rose McGowen (Paige matthews) who was a half sister - the sisters mother divored their father and had Paige with her White Lighter Sam.

Brian Krause (Leo Wyatt + Piper's husband)
Dorian Gregory (Inspector Darryl Morris)
Julian McMahon ( Cole Turner)

The programme is Charmed. The theme tune is How Soon is Now but badly covered, don't know who by, but it was a big mistake!
