Absolutely true. We are influenced by the weather more than we know. Who can feel depressed on a glorious sunny day in summer? S.A.D. is known to cause havoc to our systems. In the U.K. it is usually during the winter months, but in Asia it is during rainy season. In Japan, rainy season is in June and July, but I once experienced an awful summer there; as if the Rainy Season wasn't bad enough, it then constantly rained for 47 days (and nights) after the official end of the rainy season! There were so many suicides that summer!
It is a fact the suicide death rate goes up when the sun doesn't shine.
Apparently it is more than psychological; our brains produce chemicals to make us feel happy, but our bodies need the Vitamin D from natural sunlight. On the "bright" side, a five or ten minute exposure of bare skin such as face, hands and arms, will give you enough D vitamin; so next time the sun shines, face up to it and soak it in!
I know how you are feeling, but it can't rain for ever! Maybe you should try one of those lamps as the other answerers suggested. But know this, you will feel so much better when the rain stops ... try to hang on! Or "sleep" on - sleeping is good for you!

Yeah....I too live where it rains a ton and don't get to see the sun for days. I came to live here about 4 years ago. What I have found to be effective is exercising on a regular basis. When you exercise, your brain receives certain chemicals that make you feel better. I see a huge difference in my behavior over the past 2 years.

If exercising doesn't work for you, try buying lamps that mimick the sun (you can set it to turn on in the morning or whenever you usually wake up) or if you like, you can also try dark chocolate. Dark chocolate too releases a chemical in the brain that makes you feel better.

Positive association has also worked for me...whereby I associate the rain with good memories. So, now when it rains, I don't feel bad. Infact, I put on good music and dance (usually after I come back home in the evenings) or even go for a quite walk (even if its raining!!).

Take care and call a friend if you are feeling down. Friends are amazing and can make a huge difference.

Some people suffer from SAD, Seasonal Affective Disorder, and it is indeed caused by lack of sunlight. You can do your best to help by living in well-lighted rooms (use Natural Spectrum lightbulbs) or you can Google "light box". Wear light, or bright, colours. Get outside in daytime as much as possible, and make sure to get enough exercise and eat plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables. Exercise and fresh air will help.
I'm the opposite, I live in S. Spain and it's the constant heat and bright, bright sun of summer that gets me down. I love autumn, grey skies and rain. You have my sympathies; I wish we could trade! Then we'd both be happy.

Yes, it's to do with the hours of daylight (assuming there is some sun). Lack of exposure to the sun leads to low levels of Vitamin D. You can buy special lamps, or try a sunbed. It's known as SAD.
