You are right that only about 6 were minted. These were not for circulation and were known as "Pattern coins" as they were not intended for circulation. Some were uniface (ie one side only) and others double headers. Two are in the British Museum and the others are in the Royal Mint Collection. So if you have one, it is either a fake or you are REALLY lucky

The 1933 bronze English penny is indeed rare. It is cataloged as KM# 838 along with the pennies from 1928-1936. This leaves out the idea it was a pattern, it was not. There must have been some other reason they are rare. They did make .500 silver ones that year, they are KM# 839. You may have to check with the British Royal Mint. royalmint.gov.uk as for the reason and just how many are there. Even the book Coins of the British World didn't help me. Hope I have helped some?

I think coins of those days were fully backed by the intrinsic value of the metal they were made of (i.e. they were not mere fiduciary issues). In that case, a penny of that time would be worth the equivalent value of the intrinsic value of the same grade and quantity of that metal now.
However, if it is the purchasing power of that penny now is what you meant, the deflator will have to be applied to know its value now.

If you have one its almost certainly a fake. If one came up for auction and could be verified as genuine, maybe a million pounds sterling.
