My Username up until 2 minutes ago was YID ARMY... (as i am a spurs fan) However i received an answer from a jew saying that i was being very offensive for using the word yid and it is as bad as calling a black person a n*gga.. I am the most unracist person and i was quite shocked to receive this answer.... Do all jews agree that it is an insult or is it ok that spurs fans are embrassing their jewish heritage......

Serious answers please no racist ones!

Yid is infact the Yiddish word for Jew.
Historically is an adjective derived from the original word Yid.
When used by non Jews it is usually meant to be offensive.
Yiddish speaking Jews call themselves Yidden plural for yid.

Not being a football fan I am unable to comment
certainly I do not see it as an insulting my heritage

It's a tricky one isn't it. My friend is a Spurs fan and he talks about the "Yid Army" and sings songs with the word Yid in.

I think it's difficult to understand for those people who aren't Spurs fans - and probably people from other countries.

When used in context, by a Spurs fan, then it shouldn't really be considered a racist slur - but I guess some people won't understand that.

Yid is a name for a jew so that is true definitely. I didn't know tottenhanm supporters were called yids anyway - is this because they are mostly jews or something cos as I say thats what yid means. I donlt think its as bad as saying ****** though!!!

Some people are too touchy about names, there have always been nicknames for all races as there are for the British from people of other countries. You generally got a nickname whilst at school which always live with you. Some can be quite cruel, but in general it is only a way of poking fun at each other. It is only the so called self righteous P.C. types that seem to object?

Spurs are on their way to Auschwitz
Hitlers' gonna gas 'em again
Noone likes 'em
The yids from Tottenham
The Jews from White Hart Lane!
I heard this chant many years ago on the terraces and always thought what fun it was. Now, are you offended!

'Yid' referring to a Jewish Male, is still occasionally used inside the Jewish Community, however in general it's use by certain groups of (non-Jewish) persons with certain political views has led many in the Jewish Community to view with suspicion a non-Jew using the term.

Yes all those times that the opposing fans have been shouting YID across the terraces are shouting pleasant insults and generally being really nice.
