Wound (Skin) Infection
What is a wound infection?
When your child has a skin injury, watch for signs of infection. Signs that the wound is infected include:
Pus or cloudy fluid draining from the wound.
A pimple or yellow crust forming on the wound.
The scab is increasing in size.
Increasing redness occurs around the wound (cellulitis).
A red streak is spreading from the wound toward the heart.
The wound has become extremely tender.
Pain or swelling has increased 48 hours after the wound occurred.
The lymph node draining that area of skin may become large and tender.
Your child may develop a fever over 100°F (37.8°C).
The wound hasn't healed within 10 days after the injury.

its going to get red and sore and maybe even have a little puss the main thing is to watch for the redness to spread further down the arm leg or whatever body part you cut and if you start running a mild fever or if the limb in question begins to run fever its probably infected just keep it clean dont put too much medicine on it medicine can sometimes do more harm than good because it irritates it.

It will itch. The best thing you could do for an infected cut would be to pour some hydrogen peroxide over it. Depending on where the cut is put some antibiotic ointment on it and cover it with a band aid but not too tight. You have to let it breathe but keep it protected and clean too.

There will be red streaks running from the cut,
and also a white pus around it. Peroxide will do
a good job of cleaning the cut out followed by
an antibiotic ointment such as Neosporin, and put
a bandage on it.The peroxide will boil out the infection and will not burn so much as other disenfectints.

It could be swollen, red, extremely sore, have drainage, seepage or pus, that can be greenish to yellow in color. My advice is if you think it is infected, see a doc for treatment.
