It may be hibernating....

#1 Dont get a computer near any type of MAGNETS< ELECTRICAL STATIC< WATER...

A magnet can mess up your computer by simply getting near it..

What I would try is pressing the power button on the computer, let the light turn on, THEN HOLD THE POWER BUTTON DOWN for about 10 seconds, it should turn off...

Try removing all cds, and then try pressing the power button again. Also move the mouse and hit spacebar a few times, if you laptop is hibernating, it needs to be woken up and sometimes this takes a minute after touching specific keys on the keyboard or moving the mouse.

OTHERWISE call DELL. Sounds to me though like you did something wrong to it.

That shutdown approach might want to be opposite to all ideal thoughts. residing house windows desires to systematically close the various facilities that are many times operating. those are the 'behind the scenes' products you do not many times see; which could be diverse from a 'software' you've open. in the journey that they are not done step by step, it has a tendency to go away unresolved topics with those facilities, which over the years, and persistently done, motives increasingly extra larger complications and may destroy residing house windows thoroughly. to make sure a number of those 'behind the scenes', unseen facilities: good click the device tray> job manager> approaches. Turning a residing house windows device "OFF" (from 'commence> turn Off laptop...' button) isn't how you may placed your device away for the nighttime (or prolonged classes) and forcing a shutdown with the potential button is by no potential a very good option; purely a very last hotel. It prevents residing house windows from 'house responsibilities' device information to get waiting for the subsequent commence-up. once you've been powering off for extremely lengthy, the OS will virtually honestly be corrupted, which could clarify the misbehavior. "fix residing house windows" from the restore disk may nicely be the purely answer, if any.

Contact Dell support, I think that might be a motherboard or power supply issue.

Hello,

Your computer may be overheating. When the temperature exceeds a certain point shutting down automatically occurs. Thats my guess.

Well sence you have dell, i would either: Throw it out the window. Or sell it for scraps and start over fresh.
