Why not just create a shortcut like you would if the directory was local on the machine.

Mapping a drive has no security benefits, you can set the security on the share and access it either by a mapped drive or going direct using the UNC path.

The benefit of a mapped drive is to support old legacy software that doesn't know how to work with UNC paths. A lot of old windows software will only see logical drive letters C: D: E:... etc. So, with a mapped drive, those old programs that weren't designed to work on networks, can still access network resources.

you do not need to share all of C:
You will copy the files and folders that you DO want to share to the mapped drive.

The easiest way to copy those files to the mapped drive is using the Explore window.

RIGHT click START > left click Explore
You will see the Explore window has two panes
and you will see all of your drives.
You can right click any folder/hold down mouse>
drag it to Z (until you see Z is highlighted/blue)
and let go mouse button >
select COPY HERE

Then the other computer(s) will only have access to the files you put into Z
and allows for non-access to your other computer files.
