For the 2006 season, the minimum salary was $327,000. This obviously doesn't include signing bonuses that many players receive with their first major league contract.

With the new CBA now in place, this amount will rise to $380,000, and to $400,000 by 2009.

A baseball professional baseball player does not make a huge salary until he gets to the Big Leagues. Until then they make hardly any at all, until AA.
For instance, Johnny gets drafted out of College in the 2nd round. He will get a big signing bonus, when he signs and then he will sign a contract with that organization. He will then be sent to a minor league team, most likely A. As he moves up the minor league ladder, he will get pay increases. Short Season A (New York-Penn League), he will make $780/month. Low-A (South Atlantic League) he will make $900/month. High A (Florida State League) he will make $1,050/month. AA (Eastern League) he will make $1,250/month. AAA (International League) he will make, at least, $1,500/month.
Things change an vary depending on an indivduals contract. But this is a broad overview of how much you really don't make until you get up to the Bigs. Once you get up the Big Leagues, if you get sent back down to AAA, you can't make any less than $60,000/season. That is why it is so important to get to the Grande Leagues. Plus, all the other benefits that come with be in the player's assosiation (sp?). They get other income from merchandise that is sold in stores, on-line and at the stadium, every big league player gets a portion of that revenue. Then there is the pension, 5 years in the big leagues you get half pension which is $50,000/year and 10 years is full pension which is $100,000/year. You do not receive pension until you retire.
This why you see guys hanging around for so long.
