I have a friend who LOVES to bake. Any suggestions what to get her for Christmas? For all you Bakers out there, what is the one thing in your kitchen you couldn't live without? My friend said she could use a set of those fosting tips, and good set I should look for?

Get at least one of these books:

Martha Stewart's Baking Handbook
or
Home Baking : Jefferey Alford, Jeffrey Alford, Naomi Duguid

I prefer savory cooking, but after I got these books...now I want to bake all the time! The Martha Stewart one is really good.

Also get her a scale. I go to a Culinary school and I assist in A TON of baking classes. A scale is essential in baking because baking is more of a science than cooking sometimes.
I'd also reccomend getting her a recreational baking course that covers the basics. A lot of cooking schools have rec. classes for a good price.

A good sifter Good, DEEP mixing bowls that are perfectly round on the bottom Measuring cups/spoons (good durable ones) Rubber spatulas...I bake a lot, and mine wear out fast. Cooling racks that don't rust. Parchment paper Mixer Yeah, a good set of frosting tips and bags A book for decorating with icing tips A set of pro icing food colors (wilton has deluxe sets at hobby lobby) Cookie cutters A GOOD oven thermometer

if you're looking to go the frosting tip road.. get the solid point, also known as a round which is ideal for writing.. and two star tips, small & medium to large. she'll be able to do most designs that one would see with these three essentials.

other ideas: top shelf sifter.. high quality whisk.. top of the line spring pan.. stainless bowls..
