It was visage. They had a hit with a song called "Fade to grey" Isn't he just soooo funny on celebrity scissor hands? haha! I love the fact they've named a type of "cocked up" hair doo after him. I hope he makes it through to tomorrow night.

He was a founding part of the 80s new romantic scene, along with spandau ballet, boy george, marilyn, - they all used to hang out at the same club in London. Lots of make up and dramatic styling - everyone outdoing one another for glamour. He was in the band Visage - who had their biggest hits around 1980-1983. They are best known for "fade to grey", which got to number one - great monochrome video with bits of french in the chorus!- however, other big hits are "mind of a toy", "the damned don't cry", and "night train". Electronic synth music - similar to ultravox, kraftwerk, that sort of thing - but with much more passion and drama!
Their music is still used =- I heard it in the background on a sky documentary just last week about sleeping disorders - Not surprisingly the song was "sleep walk!"

I also saw a documentary about 10 years ago (along the lines of "what are they doing now?" which showed Steve strange back at home in Wales, selling burgers from a van - good luck to him now he's back in the spotlight! Their greatest hits are still available.

Steve Strange (born Steven John Harrington on May 28, 1959) is a British singer and pop icon, best remembered as an influential party promoter and as the frontman and lead singer for Visage. Strange is often referred to as the "ultimate New Romantic," as his influence on the British club scene of the early 1980s and on synthesized music can still be seen today.
