I have a 60gb iPod colour. I have been using it on a WinXP machine, but have recently bought another machine with Win2000 on, that I was hoping to use as a music server and to encode AAC files, leaving my other machine free for gaming etc.

However, the iPod will only sync with the XP machine. The Win2000 machine detects it, but it will not work in iTunes. I have recently restored the iPod, to no avail.

Does anybody have any ideas?

your ipod will only sync through one pc. this is to stop theft of music, what you need to do is set up a home network and copy the music files to your new machine. Install itunes and create the relationship between that and your ipod. As you say this is to be your music server, it should pose no real problems for you. Its a bit of a pain but will be worth it in the long run. As a side benefit you can keep a copy of your music on your old machine as a backup in case of disk failure in your music server, so all is not bad :)
