It would save us the stomach aches if we could keep politicians accountable for their official statements and activities.

As others have pointed out, polygraphs can be fooled.

The result would be that the best liars would pass them.

Someone mentioned that we need accountability.

In theory we have that, it's called the VOTE.

When the people hired to represent you fail to do so, and sell you down the river, you should vote them out of office the next election.

If more people did this, we'd have a better quality of politician.

There are too many ways 'around' a polygraph test. You need to keep track of a politicians voting record. if this person is 'new' to the system, you need to find out his/hers feelings on important issues that concern you.

Would the polygraphs predict the future?? When I think of campaigning, I think of things guys say to appease their constituents...It is what they do in the future that tells if they would be lying or not...unless there is a specific question/issue from the past that gets asked...But those have usually been documented...

Polygraph results cannot be used in a court of law, so testing them would be a worthless endeavor. Besides we all know that all of them would flunk it.
Truth is not in the vocabulary of a politician, they are more like magicians using slight of hand to continually pick our pockets.

No. Polygraphs can be fooled, and a skilled politician would defeat the system.

Yeah. If that happened before, the Republicans would have won the election.
