You're better off just buying a cheap router (like Netgear). If you daisy chain them - from the port to PC A to PC B, for example, then PC A will have to be on whenever you want to use PC B

Sharing an internet connection is very simple.
You only need a "crossover" cable for 2 computers.

With 2 NO router or hub are needed.
With 2 the only reason you would want to use a router or hub is to create a physical-firewall from externel sources.
Usually a router or hub is used when you need the extra port(s) to connect more pcs or nodes.
When purchasing your ethernet cable:
Specify "CROSSOVER" (because they LOOK the same as ethernet...but there is a difference:
just ethernet-cable requires the router or hub).
The difference is in the crossed-over wiring inside the end of the ethernet cable CONNECTORS.

Hope that's clear.

Plug the crossover cable into the NICs (landcard) (Network Interface Cards)
into the ports on the back of each computer.

Then go to each PC Network Neighborhood icon and run through the Network Setup Wizard.
You will need a floppy disk to save the info from the first computer set up, to facilitate the second computer setup easier.
If you don't have a floppy drive, there should be another
external media your computer uses.

For specific Network Set up instructions
go to your computer HELP menu.
RIGHT click START > select Explore
In the EXPLORE window at the top tool bar
select HELP > then INDEX
and type in Network
then use the help topics to complete your set up.
During the network setup select TC/IP

Remember after you NIC is physically installed,
you may need to go online to the manufacturer
and download a free fresh driver. Do that,
install it, and then restart your computer so that it will "see" the new driver.
AND also see the new c/o-cables for the Network.

if you only have one connection and you want both computers running on that connection you have 3 options.
Get a router and setup a network that way (wired or wireless)
Get a HUB (does basically the same as a router but no networking to setup its just there)
Or you could use an ethernet bridge with a cross-over cable. This can be done wired or wirelessly.

It depends what internet connection you are using. If you are using broadband (cable, DSL, etc.) then you can just install a router and then plug in your modem to the WAN port of the router and each computer into a LAN port on the router.
