When all they have to do is buy a deer gaurd for the front of their truck and just drive around?!
I almost took out a buck with a rack that would have made any veteran hunter proud to display on his wall, then less than a mile later I almost creamed his damn girlfriend!
My thoughts were...look at all that deer jerky just running by :(

Is anyone even reading the rest of my question?!

Because if you eat a deer that has been hit by a vehicle, you'll wake with horrible nightmares of headlights coming at you and you can't move. And you'll wake up just before impact.

jk...I didn't know that they did...I thought it was just an excuse to go out in the woods and drink beer.

In my case, I hunt because I developed the love of the outdoors from my grandfather and my father. It is something that's "in my blood" and now in my sons' blood. Both boys (aged 10 and 5) have been taught SAFETY, SAFETY, SAFETY FIRST! In Montana, they can't hunt (ie carry/discharge weapon at game) until 12 yrs old. I can't leave the house without them and I can tell you that our relationships have never been stronger. For a "child" to be there with his father and hear all of the thought process that goes into stalking a deer before the fatal shot is fired is high level learning and both of my boys have shown a propensity towards listening/learning/thinking on their feet. If I were to "take out deer" with my truck, I definitely would NOT want to feed it/them to my family for the rest of the year. Hunting is a way of life in my family, and I would fight the entire world to make sure that I can hunt/fish/hike/camp with my two sons on my next and every subsequent weekend off! Excuse my rambling on, but I thought you might appreciate a more involved answer. P.S.- If they don't get good grades, respect their environment and treat each other (and friends) with kindness and respect, they do not go out with me. I've found this to be the most powerful motivator out there.

Well, ever notice every year you start seeing more and more deer right before deer season? That's because they don't have many natural predators, besides hunters, and they overpopulate.

So, just as soon as we want the speed limit to come down to... say... 12, we'll quit hunting. But, we like to drive a bit faster than 12 mph, so we're gonna keep hunting, ok?

Not just men ... I hunt every year with my dad. Then again, I was raised in the country and it was a perfectly normal and routine practice. My son will get his hunters safety this year, and hopefully join us next year. :)

And we do it because it's fun, and deer and moose meat are to die for. *drool*

Instinct. But I'm against hunting for sport and skin, like the extremely proud "Headhunters" in my area. I understand hunting for food, that I only have reservations about, but to kill for glory and display in your home?

I guess it's instinct passed down from the primative hunter/gatherer days of man.
