If you have never made a website before in your life and want to create something quickly, easily and that looks good, the best thing to start with is Microsoft Frontpage if you use a Windows computer.
If you have a magnificent Apple Mac computer, then i'd advise getting the iLife'06 package which includes iWeb - fantastic looking websites with no stress at all.

The best bet would be to go to www.download.com and have a look for a program to make websites - there are hundreds out there of varying difficulties and there may just be the one for you.

1) Determine the objective of your website...whether its going to be a online photo album or a page about you and your family or a page about your passions say sports ( :) )...
2) Once you decide what you want to make it on decide what all you are going to put up
3) Once you are sure about what all you are going to put up (eg what pics, what text ..what scripts will you be using and all)..search for a good free web host which supports these features (Features such as a ftp client which will allow you to upload your pics, supports the kind of scripting you want like flash, javascript, cgi etc..)

some good ones are geocties.com,lycos.com,
bravenet.com,pages.google.com( you will need a gmail id for google pages )

4) Lot of these free web hosts provide website builders which have predefined templates to allow you create a decent website easily and quickly..if you are satisfied with that..well and good..but if you want some more customization then I suggest you get a free WYSIWYG HTML editor such as NVU ..(if you have microsoft frontpage already well and good..its quite good)..

5) Using the editor you can easily create a website ..learning a bit of HTML to improve the site appearance wont harm anything..
6) If you really want to spice up your website then i suggest you can implement some javascript ...you can learn it and do it or download the scripts from the net and put it on your site..here are some sites which have a lot of good scripts with various functionalities

1) http://www.javascriptkit.com/
2) http://www.a1javascripts.com/
3)http://www.java-scripts.net/
4) http://www.javafile.com/

Happy building

We used EZLAVA to create our web site. A friend referred us to EZLAVA, saying it was what they used and they loved it. So we tried it and agree with our friend.

With the program, you don't have to know HTML, PHP, ASP, or Javascript. It does all that for you via a central admin that appears when you click on an object (images, text, forms, etc.) to make changes.

We started on a blank edit page (studio area), and uploaded our own graphics into the database. Using the program, we set up one main web page template using our graphics. We were able to drop all of our graphics onto the page at once. Then we set up our links and saved the page as a "custom template". EZLAVA calls them custom templates. They are pages or content layouts that can be added to multiple pages over and over. It saved us a bunch of time. By creating one web page with all your page links and graphics, you can apply that layout to any web page you need. And those templates can be locked. So when you make a change to the template, it makes those changes site wide.

It also has a dynamic shopping cart builder, form builder, html text editor, and pretty much every other feature you'd need. We use it in tandem with Photoshop to do all of our web stuff.

Overall, it's really easy to use. We found the EZLAVA software definitely worth it!

To make a web site, you need to be able to code in HTML (HyperText Markup Language). You will also need a web host for publishing your site on the internet.

If you cannot code in HTML, you can use a service like Yahoo's GeoCities to build the code for you. But these sites don't allow you to have your own domain, pretty average designs with limited customization, and laden with advertising (and pop-ups).

You can also create a blog (but it is different than a web site). You can use any of the free blogging software.

http://www.blogger.com
http://www.livejournal.com
http://www.vox.com
http://www.xanga.com

You can also create a profile on a popular social network. Again, you can't use your own domain, but you'll have a web page to customize.

Look up http://www.excelyourbiz.com
to learn how to build a personal, business, or merchant
website on your own without the high cost of paying for a
webmaster for free or for a low cost. They show you everything
you need to know to build your own web site.

They offer advice and guide you through the steps to
build your very own web site. Basic computer skills are needed
and you don't need to be a computer whiz to build your own website.

There are a number of free website builders, for example Yahoo has geocities, where you can create your own web page for free. Like all the free site builders you have advertising on the page that you can get rid of if you are willing to pay a small monthly fee to be rid of it.

Hello,

Website are built with a framework called HTML. You may want to check out http://geocities.com though. Or we can do it for you!

You can go to www.geocities.com. It's free. If you want something that costs money, you can go out and buy dreamweaver. It is alot better than geocities. Geocities is free, thats why it is not as good.
