The best place to live in the United States ... crime-wise is St Louis.

Or did you mean crime-free?

Unfortunately there is crime everywhere. Small towns tend to have less crime than larger centers - fewer people less crime. However, we have traveled throughout the US and have not ever been affected by crime, and we have not frequented what would be considered the "best" areas. We have tied up in our sailboat at town docks, waterfronts, boatyards, etc., and have never had a problem. We have done extensive road trips, stayed at very inexpensive motels and campgrounds and have not once even felt uncomfortable in terms of feeling unsafe. I do believe that for the most part in most places the ordinary person is relatively safe from crime.

Wyoming! Just Kidding well, there is going to be crime everywhere but you can always find a city that doesn't have hopefully a lot of crime. But how much money do you have to spend? I would say alot of those northern states are the best, such as Idaho, Montana, Minnesota, nothing very fascinating but safe.

You know hon, that is a really good question! Years ago, I could have given you a straight answer, but now days, I don't think anywhere is really fool proof safe. You have to watch your back even in the smallest towns.

Don't move to Joilet, IL. I mean Joliet, IL. they rob your cars in broad daylight here and the cops around here are useless. Kids damage your property, trespass, their parents threaten your life and the Joilet cops do nothing about it. Notice I choose to spell it like toilet, that's because Joliet is one big huge toliet, I hate that I let my husband talk me into moving into this crap city it's freaking ghetto in Joilet, IL.
