I think they are fine. A few years ago, I would have said that you have to keep your eyes on them so they don't try and take over the world. Apparently, that has become us now.

American attitudes changed about Germany due to the stationing of US forces in Germany. Americans were hostile towards Germany following WW2. However, the US troops found that the average German to be like the average American. This naturally enfluenced opinions at home in the USA.
Since the end of the Cold War and the withdrawal of US forces from Germany you do not have the day to day contact between Americans and Germans that once took place on a huge scale. So the only contact most Americans have with Germans today is via TV news programs which are jaundiced to say the least. The general view now is that Germans have joined with the French in trying to create an Anti Anglo-American block.
On the lower level it is perceived that Germans are generally well-educated and hard working.

My father, mother, and two older brothers were born in Germany. I was
born in the U.S. I was told I would have to cross the great water, (ocean),
before I will have any success.
Seems funny that Providence brought me to the U.S., an open society where I
could learn what I need to know. But I will have to return to Europe to put
it to use.
America is young country, and lacks the sophistication of older nations.
They don't think much beyond their own interests.

My opinion.
Germans as well as all Europeans. We worry about your extreme left leanings. We don't like for you to profit off illegal sales of weapons to terrorist and rogue nations. We don't like it when you say we need to do something and then crawfish when we (USA) do. We are beginning to see you as part of the problem instead of a piece of the solution.
We saved your butts from being Nazi slaves and now you and the French spit on us. What do you expect?
