When I pointed out to a shop that they were not alowed to print maps on their leaflets without paying ordinance survey they were abusive to me. Should I now report them to the map company so they can take legal action?

Wait a second...Did they break copyright law or your "ordinance survey"? Why would they "have" to have that first? People can print maps they have drawn or made up. If they copied it from the city/county, that would be public domain, I would think. Some places have gotten away with charging fees, but they might could challenge it.
Anyway...who cares? I know you might just be trying to help them out by warning them, but if they don't care, and you don't work for the city, just forget about it.

Probably go to local Citizens advice office for help or to your family solicitor as normally they will give you 30 mins of there time for free. I would go straight to my Solicitor for help if you wish to take this further. Plus get in touch with the Head Office of the shop/store but keep copies of emails/letters sent. Good Luck x

Get a life, why are you making this your problem. Surely it is up to ordanance survey to take it further if they wish to do so. How many leaflets are there out there with maps on them. How many times have you draw a map showing someone directions. Can you not find anything better to do.

why not - how do you know the map company will sue ?
( for a business it about economics not hurt feelings just a warning letter can cost them hundreds of dollars ( or pounds ) where is the profit ?)

Ordinarily I'd say no. But if they were rude to you - sod 'em!! Let the map people know. If they take it up or not is up to them, but at least you've not let the rude shop people get away with it!
