I know this seems like a weird question, but I am trying to think of a good name. I am going to be writing a novel that involves a futuristic settlement on the Red Planet. I may just use the best answer in that novel.

(It will be in part two of a trilogy. I am halfway finished with the first novel right now.)

Serious responses only please! Any 'cute' answers will be reported!

Areopolis, since areo-, from the Greek god of war, Ares, refers to Mars in the same way geo- refers to Earth.

I'd then nickname it "The Red City."

Depends how the city gets started. If a government starts it, they might name it after their own country, like New America or New Tokyo. If a corporation starts it, they would name it after their company, like Boeing City or Lockheedville. If it is started by some rich individual, it would be named after that person, like Gatestown. If it was started by refugees, they might name it after their homeland, like New Palestine or New Iraq. Or it might get named after some of the early explorers in space, like Armstrong City or Gagarinsky Gorod.

If this helps, can I get a mention in your novel? Could you name a Martian surface feature after me?

I am intrested in writing but not a sci-fi like you better go with Dunash
First part in gaelic means "brown" and ash comes from Ashley meaning "ashwood". So the meaning Dunash means Brown Ashwood.

Why not Cydonia? For the range of hills noted for the "Face" of Mars.

Hi. 'Lowell', after Percival Lowell who studied Mars. I would prefer 'Asimov'.
