Use a gel shaving cream. And be sure your razor is sharp. Both will help prevent razor burn. Good luck.

If you are using an electric razor, which I suspect because they tend to generate lots of problems with razor burn, then switch to a good blade. Try a triple blade razor and see how much smoother and more comfortable your face will be. Splash warm water on yoru face and then apply a nice shave cream or gel before shaving. After shaving take your morning shower and once dried off use a nice gentle after-shave.

if you shave in the same direction that your hair grows, you will more than likely reduce the risk of razer blade kisses..
also, use a good after shave or facial moisterizer with some kind of menthol cooling sensation..
it helps to reduce burning, itching, and redness..
good luck,

Be sure the blades are sharp, dull blades are the #1 cause of razor burn.
Be sure to use plenty of shaving cream, soap or other such products.
Be sure to trim long beards as close to the skin as you can before shaving, it'll dull the blades quickly trying to cut heavy long beard hair.
Use warm or cool water.
(My spell checker is going stupid again, sorry if somethings isn't right).
