It depends on why your PC is slow.
Adding memory (RAM) will often speed up your machine, especially if it tends to have a lot of processes in memory and only the delivered amount of memory installed.
Upgrading the CPU to a faster CPU will speed it up. You may find you are at the upper limit of your motherboard, so you would need to replace the motherboard and CPU. Getting a good quality motherboard can make a big difference in the processing speed.
Very few PCs are disk limited, so a new, faster hard drive probably won't be of help. If you find key programs are very slow and you have a lot of disk activity, then first defragment, if that doesn't help, then check if there are faster disks you can get.
If you are seriously into gaming, a fast, high quality video card is going to buy you quite a bit of speed.
If you do a lot of on-line gaming, then a high speed connection will help.
Prior to actually buying new stuff, you should make sure you don't have a lot of programs running in the background (check the lower right of the screen, the little icons there represent running programs that take up memory and us a small bit of the CPU). You should also clean off any ad ware your machine may have collected and check for viruses.

If you are running security software it will take a lot of memory (RAM) space especially the latest version of Norton Internet Security. Increase your RAM to 512Mb and you will notice a big improvement in speed especially if running more that one application at a time. Very easy job to fit new memory, you will probably have a spare slot on the mother board. Make sure that the new memory card is the same type as the one that is already installed

Hi,
Remove some program tasks that a running in the background down by the clock. That is if there is more than 8 processes running. Half that stuff you probably don't need.
On our downloads page there are several good adware scanners/removers. A program called A2 also checks for viruses.
Good luck!

if its just a wee tweak your after, run disc defragmenter and disc cleaner. then remove all the programs that you dont need running all the time from your task bar.
if you wanna spend some cash, the first thing you want is more RAM.

Use a supercharger or Turbo.
