I definitely would not suggest using the mail. One of the main reasons that most hispanics do not use the mail is not because of the time factor, but because the Mexican mail system is less than reliable.
To send money to Mexico, visit almost any Mexican store in the
area. They will have a system of telephone transfer. The fee
is about ten dollars or less per thousand. There are many different versions of this (Vigo, Dolamex, and a host of others)
The first time that money is sent, a phone call to the person
receiving the money is necessary to establish the nearest
receiving office.
I use this method every month, and it has never given me a problem. We pay 3.50 for up to 500 USD.
If a local Mexican store is not nearby, any WAL-MART store
will send a money order to any WAL-MART store in Mexico.

If you want to know the easiest and cheapest way, I would suggest looking at what I see a ton of Mexicans doing. They go to the U.S. Post Office and buy a money order and a stamp. The total cost is probably less than $1.50. It's not as fast as a wire and it's not online, but it is cheap and easy. My suspicion is that since that is apparently the way many of the migrant workers in this area send money it must be fairly efficient.

If you need fast, use Western Union. I think Wal-Mart also offers a service like this and it may be cheaper than Western Union.
