I would like to think that on the day you are not concentrating on your looks, that you are too busy being involved in life and you put the "beauty" thing in proper perspective. Then, one would surmise that you are taking a rest, doing for yourself and using your good taste to present your best appearance. That would be considered a balanced life assuming the vast majority of ones time is spent actually living one's life.

Everyday there's always something new, for instance, This guy comes to school with a huge mohawk and used to have long hair, then the same guy except an African American comes with blond hair, and then everyone else copies the next thing. Also it gets odd really fast nowadays compared back into the 60s-90s

Because your state of mind changes all the time. You don't only feel this in connection to your appearance, but for example, also to your feelings, what you want for dinner tonight, if you're in the mood for love ect.ect. If otherwise, you'd constantly be the same all of the time! And then you only would be a pretty dull person, don't you agree?

maybe one day you feel really great about the way you look and other days you don't. maybe you are seeing someone you like on the days you are "all about" your appearance and want to look good when you see them and vice versa. who knows. moods change from day to day.
