Because they've lost their mind. Spiders are quite possibly the scariest thing on the planet. They don't look one bit pet-able to me. Sure, they've got fur, but it's on a bulbous body with eight creepy legs and who knows how many eyes....uuuuuuuugh!!!

I love spiders, especially tarantulas, they are so furry and pettable.
I had a pet tarantula for a couple years before it passed on,
it was not exactly a ton of fun, no walks or anything but I enjoyed having an unusual pet, and it was small enough to be allowed in the dorms...

tarantulas arnt really spiders there just a type of arachnid also in that group is scorpions but they can be fun to feed and since they have fur i guess you can pet them they also dont hurt humans and are easy to find if they get lost because they are so big

I think they are ugly and it sickens me! But to get to your question, people like certain animals. Peeps who like dogs buy dogs, peeps who like spiders buy spiders. It also can play a part as the person who might be afraid of spiders, wants one, to basically overcome fear...see how they live.... and have that rush when they get scared! I know that i would never ever ever buy one. Id just make one out of paper and say it was real. Have a creepy day!

Not sure why anyone would really want one. We ended up with one because a friend of ours didnt want hers anymore and she was just not going to feed it and let it die. We didnt want that to happen so we took it and cared for it. It lived a couple of years, dont think it was very happy. we never took it out and played with it. It had a tank with a small pond, sand and crickets to eat. Think they would be happier out in the wild.

They're actually very intelligent creatures. One of the teachers in school had one and she said her tarantula even understands her! When she let it out, it would tap her hand with its legs for her to feed it! I hope this encourages you to buy one. ;)
