Now days some people cannot afford to leave home at an early age, although I think if you've been to University you don't usually move home, or if you do it's not for long as you are used to your own space and independence. Some people are unlucky enough to have to save for their own place and can only afford to do so by living at home with cheap rent. I left home at 18 and am glad I did so but don't think I would have been able to do so if I was 18 now and trying to get a foot on the property ladder.

Some people never leave home! I wish I would have stayed longer that's for sure. The cost of living these days is just insane. I think that more people should stay at home as long as possible. My fiance and I plan on moving back to his parents house so that we can afford to raise a family. Sharing expenses really helps to have a better quality of life and being together with family is not bad either. I think we are seeing this become more of a trend. Many other countries have been doing that for centuries! They build bigger and bigger homes to accommodate growth. They support one another! I think it's fantastic. I also understand it's not for everyone. Some people can't wait to get away, or they just need a lot of privacy. That's completely understandable and will surely not disappear. I just think it will be harder to do as time goes by and cost of living goes up.
I hope this helps!

I left home to go to university when I was 18 and I never really moved back.
Most of my friends are still at home (I'm 22). I think people are leaving home at a much later age nowadays mainly because house prices are so high and its so expensive to rent. I certainly could afford a place on my own - I live with my boyfriend.

I left home as soon as I turned 18 to get away from my abusive father, for me it was one of the best things my hubby was 25 when he left home, we had just bought our house so it was cheaper than paying board and a mortgage, but if people want to stay at home until they feel ready to leave then fine, basically I'm surprised they can even afford a deposit on a house these days and I think people are going to be staying at home well into their twenties again with the way the house prices and interest rates are going.

Left home at 17 my mom didn't approve of the boy I was dating and gave me an ultimatum my stubborness gave in so I moved in with him. From there I bounced around all over the U.S. and now that I look back I would not change any of the experiences I encountered for the world. I had hardtimes, and good times. The independence was freedom with out restraints...
Of course I have tamed down some now that I am 28yrs. I am in my ..."been there done that mode." Ready to settle down.
I say to those ppl that leave home later than usual your missing out on life there is a whole other world out there!
My current boyfriend has never been outside of his parents safety zone and when I tell him places I have been and things I have seen he is amazed.

I was 17 and moved 275 miles away. Although went back for a year aged 20-21. My ex didn't leave til 30 and way too much of a mummy's boy! Early 20's is probably about average and thats probably the best time!
PS. Said ex's uncle still lives in the family home with his brother and sister-in-law and he's early 70's!

Well I am 28 and still live at home! But then again I am still in education and am planning to leave home when I finish my studies in September.
I don't think there is anything wrong with leaving hime late. In western society there is so much stigma associated with livving at home but there are cultures where families are extended and i think that is great. Families nowadays are growing apart. Furthermore living in Britain (I don't know about other countries) but moving out is very expensive. It is becoming increasingly difficult for first time buyers to get on the property ladder. And renting privately is pretty costly as well - it costs more per month to rent then it would cost in monthly mortgage payments. And to get on the council housing list is prety much impossible! Only single mums and teenage mums and immigrants get first serving to available council homes. Mind you, I wouldn't want to live in a council home either.

I left at age 21. The oldest person staying with their parents I can remember is a 36 year old who still lives with his mum.
I don't think much about such people, it's none of my business how they live their life really and who am I to judge? I do wonder why they stay so long though.

I left at 17. I've known some who stayed past 25.
I think those who leave later have an edge, especially if they work and save their money. I lived check by check for the first 4 years.
