A women and two men were stuck in an elevator for three days. Fortunately, one of the men had a 5-liter bottle of water and the other man had a 3-liter bottle of water. All three drank the same amount of water, and when they were rescued at last there was no water left.
Since the woman had no water to start with, she decided to give the men $8.00 in compensation for what she drank. How should the two men share the money?

Do you assume the men drank their share from their own bottles and then gave what was left to the woman? That/s 8/3 L each to drink, or 2 2/3 L. If so the 3 liter man gave her 1/3 L and the 5 liter man gave her 2 1/3 liter which is 7 times as much so he should get 7 times as much money. So he gets $7 and the 3 liter man gets $1.

There was a total of 8 liters to start with. Since each drank the same, one man owned 5/8 of the portion she drank, the other man owned 3/8 of the water she drank. So the first man should get $5 and the second man $3.
That is assuming the first man doesn't want any money from the second man after the second man's water ran out. When the second man's water ran out, the first man still had 2 liters left. Since the woman valued the water she drank (2.67 liters) at about $3 per liter, the second man should give the first man $2 to pay for the 0.67 liters he drank after his water ran out. That would give the first man $7 and the second man $1.
Moral of the story, always bring enough water.

first they would split it into 8 fractions of that ammount then since they were only the three of them. first the man with the 5 liters is to be given 5 dollars and for the three liter bottle 3 dolars.
