When I started this job I had certain things I had to do. Now they have piled more things on top of that and it gets very frustrating. Especially when they get ill because something isn't done. Meanwhile the people in the other office that take on more duties have received raises. Should I ask for one and if so how should I go about doing it?

It depends on how long you have been there, if you have been there at least 6 months to 1 year, you definitely should ask for a raise if your work has increased. Just sit down with your boss and explain to him/her why you think you deserve the raise and point out any good points about yourself ("I am always on time" or "I have not missed many days of work") Be firm and unapologetic, yet friendly and respectful.

This has happened to me. I started at one position and then was given extra work and a new position and I asked for a raise.

So here's what to do:

What I did was I asked my boss to sit down with me or you can schedule a lunch with them. Tell them there are a few things you want to talk about. Discuss the specifications of when you were hired, like what was expected of you to do. Compare that with what you are doing now. Tell them you feel you deserve a raise because of all the hardwork you have been doing. Be firm and dont back down.

If they try to say no, then politely ask if they can reconsider it and talk about it at a later time. If ultimately you dont get a raise, then you should ask for no addtional work.

Be firm and confident and professional. It you go in with a great attitude, youll most likely get it. Prepare what you want to say before hand because you might get nervous and mess up what you want to say. If you speak clearly and direct to the point I dont see any reason that you shouldnt get a raise.

Hope it works and good luck!!

If you ask for a raise, make sure you have concrete evidence that supports the need.
