I am 31 weeks pregnant and wondering what are the odds that I will go into labor before 37 weeks? I had 2 previous miscarriages, 1 with twins lost at 12 weeks & 1 lost at 21 weeks. I go to the doctor next week and I am going to ask her, but just wanted to know if anyone else has delivered early. Thanks for all your help!

I went into pre-term labor with my 1st pregnancy at 33 weeks and they put me in the hospital for the night and gace me terbutaline shots to stop the labor and it worked very well!I had to be on terbutaline pills until week 37 and I went into labor and had my son at 38 1/2 weeks. So even if you do go into early labor they can stop it!

Im 21 weeks right now and nervous. I have had 2 sons full term and then my 3rd son was born at 34 weeks. I knew I was going to deliver early because I was feeling the same types of aches and pains that I was feeling with a 9 month pregnancy. Then at about 32 week I started to leak fluid, but just a little at a time, then it broke completely at 34 weeks. Which was just fine. My baby was 5 lbs and 2 oz and he was completely healthy. There was no need for him to have any special care and we went home in 2 days. Seems like you are doing very well being at 31 weeks. If anything happened in the next couple of weeks or so, everything would be fine. After 34 weeks a babys lungs are mature but even so they did give me steroid shots to mature the babies lungs before hand. Ask about that, if you are worried. Especially since you lost one at 21 weeks. They can do that as a precaution. Good Luck with everything

You are already past the point of miscarrying. Anything born after 31 weeks is considered viable, and the vast majority of all babies born preterm (thats anything born 35 weeks and earlier) survive to be healthy normal children. 36 weeks is considered full term, and you're pregnancy is considered complete by 40 weeks.

The only risk you have at this point, besides preterm labor is still birth, and with your medical history you are surely being monitored too closely for something like that.

Preterm labor can be induced by stress, sickness, over working yourself, and not staying hydrated.

Signs of preterm labor include more than 6 contractions in an hour, (contractions that continue even after laying down and drinking a glass of water), preclampsia- symtoms are things like visual disturbances (seeing stars) swelling of the hands and especially the face, and high protiens in your urine (this is the first sign and is monitored at each of your check up appointments). Other more agressive signs of preterm labor are the loss of the mucus plug, followed by the waters, or severe cramping (contractions).

Unless your doctor has advised you otherwise, you want to stay active, but not over active. Keep the house clean and maybe take a short walk during the day. These things help relieve stress and keep you from worrying, which is very dangerous to your body and the risk of preterm labor. If your doctor has suggested you limit your activities, try to remain still and calm.

Also, laying down every 2-4 hours if you are high risk can help you avoid pre term labor.

At this point in the game you are far enough along that the worst of the risk is over, while its never good to have a baby before 36 weeks, the chances of survival are excellent. Your doctor is always availble to you by phone, and calling him with the first signs of preterm labor can help you avoid actually giving birth. There are many excellent medications that stop the labor process and give you a few extra weeks to grow that baby.

I'd say the more relaxed you stay, the better off you are. Focus on the goal, the goal of making it full term with your wonderful baby.

After having my son i had a miscarriage at 16 weeks with twins and another at 8 weeks. 4 years later i finally had a daughter and i went 12 days over my due date and had to be induced. So i wouldnt have thought that you would go into labour early. If it is bothering you though you should ask the doctor. Good luck.

Do the dr's know why you miscarried? The answer to this question can depend on that. There are medical conditions that can make you miscarry, and can also lead to preterm labor. If there aren't any medical conditions that caused you to miscarry, then the answer may also depend on your doctor. More than likely they won't know for sure. Some may want you to take it easy these next few weeks as caution, and others may tell you that you'll be fine and just go about your day as you normally would. Talk to your doctor to find out your best course of action to keep your baby growing as long as possible.

Good luck.

31 weeks is very good odds for your baby to survive out of the womb should premature labor occur.

They may just put you on bed rest to be safe.

Congratulations!

If your doctor hasn't mentioned anything so far, then your risk should be fairly low. Usually if they believe there is a risk of premature delivery they will put you on strict bed rest until the end of your pregnancy.
