Not just the death benefit, you might be entitled to a percentage of the monthly social security benefits. My grandmother collects 50% of her deceased ex-husband's monthly S.S. benefits.

My mom just passed and I am her sole survivor and paid for everything. SS told me today I am not entitled to the $255 as I am not a disabled child.

Yes you can claim it. and they may even let you draw off him. you just need to contact the Social Security Office. They will tell you what to bring with you.
