how do I copyright my artwork for free. is there a federal goverment site that help with this?

I have scanned my previous artwork and some doodles from my childhood and I want to post it in my web site, but I do not want anyone to steal my work or ideas, so how can I copywright them without paying for it.

Copyright 2006 by (Your Name)
