First off let me say that what you plan to do is a wonderful thing. I am a single mother with three of my own children and have now taken in three more (my neices chilren) one of which is severly disabled and handicapped. I don't get much assistance for him, and nothing from his parents and I know that I am not the only person out there with this problem. Although I live in Ohio the resources are basically the same. The following website will set you up with the adresses and information about who you should contact for helping disabled children.

If all else fails contact the local Children's Hospital. Believe me when I say that we spend a lot of time there and our Neurologist has told us of places to get certian medical supplies, diapers, special formulas, etc. They know where to go to help others with assistance and where to donate.
If you are thinking of toys to be donated I have a few suggestions: toys that light up and/or make music when touched, kush balls, soft stuffed animals. My little Patrick's favorite thing in the world is his fleece blanket because of the way it feels.
For anyone else reading this-children in general, not just children with disabilities, need help all year round. If you wish to donate to certain causes that is possible too. Make-a-Wish, Adventures for wish kids (program that assists throughout the year for the Wish Children), United Cerebral Palsy, MS, etc.
Once again, thank you from all caregivers and parents of children with special needs. What you are doing is a wonderful thing. Happy Holidays.

There is always the salvation army churches that take donations, along with purple heart and such. Since you would like to do donations strictly for kids with disabilities, I'd call hospitals, make a wish foundation or look into schools and ask if they're having an Adopt-a-family fundraiser, that way you could help a family right in your neighborhood. Personally - There's a school in Garden City called Burger's School for the Autistic. It cater's strictly to children with any form of autism and always need donations to raise money to help update their school.
