Whether or not a woman will become president of the United States, Has nothing to do with conservatism. Conservatives are not Misogynists, Women have taken roles with great power and importance, not only in the Party, but with in the country as well. Elizabeth Dole, Shirley Temple Black, Kathrine Harris, and Condoleza Rice are to name a few. If a Female with true Conservative values ( in the mold of Reagan and Goldwater) she would win popular support among the Right and Center and win the White house. Remember we conservatives Loved Lady Thatcher, and Benizer Bhutto, and Corzon Aquino

If the Woman running herself was very conservative, then her chances would be very good...only problem is that, on conservative terms, most women dont take the head of the family (thus yet the head of a whole state) ahead of men...in order for something like that the women would have to have some type of public appeal to that target (conservative) group, perhaps the widower of soldier or a female governor...the only other female (non-conservative) with a shot of sweeping into the presidency is Oprah Winfrey (or perhaps maybe Hilary Clinton because of her mass appeal and the fact that shes familiar with the role)...Oprahs damn powerful!

Angelina Jolie would win.

It's not the fact that the U.S. is conservative that makes it unlikely that a woman will become president. It's the perception that we have already achieved equality between men and women. However, there is still a gendered hierarchy. The implicit biases and stereotypes will prevent a woman from winning the presidency, not the overt expression of traditional gender roles.

If the American people are smart there is a good chance. Back in the 60's everyone worried about electing a Catholic president. The opposition said that the US would be ruled by the Pope. The people were smarter than the opposition. John F.Kennedy was elected

I wouldn't be surprised if I live long enough to see it happen. Take, for example, The Philippines. Gloria Macapagal Arroyo is their current president. They also had Corazon Aquino after the Edsa Revolution. Bottom line: the chances of having a female president here in the USA are quite good.

I think that Ms. Rice has a good chance of being elected president. She is well spoken, extremely intelligent and willing to stand up to the media.

I am not in the USA but I think it will be a very long time before such a conservative society will accept a female leader.
