I have a 1995 Monte Carlo Z34 with 120,000 miles. Should I use any additives like Lucas?

well as far as brand i wouldnt be too concerned. I would continue to use 5w30 unless you are using a lot of oil. A lot would be more than a quart every 3000 miles. If so then I would try a high mileage oil. Such as Valvoline Max Life or Pennzoil High Mileage oil. It has additives that help recondition the valve seals.

The grade is specified by Chevy and on those years of probably 5w30. Check the owners manual or the dealer to be sure. As to brand any good quality national brand will work. Just stay away from the el cheapo oils. Additives are not required or recommended unless you have a specific mechanical problem that you are trying to keep from fixing. Factory doesn't recommend them in normal use, and I don't either. Just my two cents though. Change every 3,000 miles oil and filter and you should go a long time.

I am a big fan of synthetic oil, but in a high mileage vehical, the synthetic oil may clean the engine so well that you will have more problems then its worth. Synthetic oil is best used on a fairly new engine, then you will not have the sludge build up to contend with.
I have a Buick with over 400,000 miles using all Amsoil synthetic

well sir what the factory doesn't tell you is the 5w-30 that is probably recommended ( see your owners manual) is a great break in oil but as time goes on and the miles rack up the bearings on your crankshaft as well as rod bearings begin to were thus meaning that a thin oil such as 5w-30 is going to pass through your engine faster which will in turn give you a lower oil pressure reading i would suggest that a car with that amount of mileage step up to at least 10w30 id go with 10w-40 my self and would probably use Valvoline as the chosen brand

As everyone is saying, use 5W30 or what your owner's guide says, but with an older car like that, you should start switching to synthetic oil. It is handles heat better than regular oil and it lubricates much better.
