There are many arguments about dreams: do they reveal our subconscious desires? Are they merely a catalogue of our most mundane thoughts? Or are they some form of contact with the Divine (not Divine himself, I hope)? The most popular misconception about dreams is that they are interesting. There is nothing on earth duller than listening to other people tell you their dreams. It is like listening to a story without proper characters, narrative and form.

What an apt question - and I can't help laughing.

No I really don't like hearing about other people strange dreams.

It's odd how we're compelled to share our dreams with someone the morning after we have had it. Sometimes the dream is so vivid and odd that we think it sounds interesting - but the listener is normally being bored rigid behind a charade of politeness.

Dreams make little sense to begin with, trying to explain them in the hazy light of morning is even more confusing. But people get so excited talking about their dream, it's quite hilarious. I usually just start laughing and say, 'You really think I'm interested don't you'.

Good question!

I have, on occasion, interpreted people's dreams for them, but I only do this when I feel like doing it (on message boards) and only if the dream in question has an interesting component. I think of them as raw literature in a case like this, and if they do not have too many opaque references that I cannot figure out without knowing the person, then they can be a good source of brainstorming fodder. But I don't think I could be exposed to a barrage of them on a regular basis. It would be sort of like having to listen to and entertain someone else's toddler.

I think people often read too much into dreams. I think it's more worthwhile to deal with reality. But, there's a popular belief that dreams can tell you important things about yourself, so people what to share their dreams to find out what it says about them. Just ignore it if you don't want to hear/read it. That's what I do

I am honestly not interested in hearing someone else's dreams, unless it is part of my job.
