If he is going to play through it, loosen his strings(get them restrung and dropped by at least 5 pounds) This gives him less shock. Build up his grip(make it bigger) This way he can't squeeze the raquet to tight. You also can use a vibration dampener. Lots of Ice and if it gets real bad have him get a cortisone shot.

Use "soft" strings (multifilaments).
Use an elbow strap (see link below).
Use a racquet with a stiffness less than 70
Take two months off if the tennis elbow pain is bad, this is the only way to recover.

My sister used to have tennis elbow until my father got her this racket called "Pro Kennex." It helps reduce shock, and it's created with kinetic materiel.

Rest. You may not need expensive treatments sessions if you give the tendonitis time to rest. It is an overuse injury.
