The guy Nr.1 has to make guy Nr. 2 suffer in order to take revenge of something that the family of Nr.2 did to family of Nr.1. I am thinking more in direction of "ruining him" , psychologically, materially or what ever. What could this be?

We need a bit more info about the story. At the very least, the genre and when and where it's set. Revenge in a fantasy novel set in midievil times would probably be very different from revenge in a modern day thriller novel. Revenge is different in other cultures as well, people in places like Japan hold honor and family to higher standards than say, most Americans would.
