Java, C/C++, C# and PHP are the first free languages that spring to mind, but your decision will depend largely on what sort of game you mean. If you mean a multiplayer 3D shooter, then you'll be looking at C/C++ or C#. If you want to write a browser game then PHP is probably worth looking into.
