Because electrodes are either reducing agents or oxidizing agents, meaning, either of them are willing to give or recieve electrons. Cathodes are willing to donate electrons. Anodes are willing to take electrons. These are their chemical properties. If they do not have these properties, they wont be good electrodes. Now since ions are charged, they are less stable. To achieve stability, an ion, say a cation, will need to go to the cathode where the material is more than willing to give out extra electrons. Because of the electron donation, the cation will then be nuetral, thus more stable. Nature always favors the more stable.

The electrodes are energized using the direct current and voltage of a battery. The voltage is similar to water pressure and pushes electrons into the solution. The ions are charged particles and are attracted to the negative pole if of positive charge or vice versa. Pure water can not conduct an electric current but the electrolyte used in electrolysis can conduct a current composed of ions.

During electrolysis the ions get free.So they get attracted towards the electrodes of opposite charge.

Because they need love - or they are carried within the electron flow between the electrodes
