A googol is a number. It is equal to a 1 with a hundred zeros after it (10 to the power of 100). A googolplex is a 1 with a googol of zeros after it.

No idea what a google is though, if anything.

If you're refering to the website, then the name was started as a joke, boasting about the amount of information the search engine would be able to search. It was originally named 'Googol', a word for the number represented by 1 followed by 100 zeroes.

After founders, Stanford graduate students Sergey Brin & Larry Page, presented their project to an angel investor, they received a cheque made out to 'Google'!

So I don't think the word 'google' has any meaning, except for the No.1 search engine on the Net of our times...

P.S. I can also tell you the origin of other famous brand names (Apple, Sony, Sun, HP, Compaq, Adobe, etc) if you email me. Caio
