Its not just the sports clothes. Its the gold rings on every finger, the big hoop earrings, the hair scraped back in to a tight pony tail, the piercings, the tattoos and the whole attitude that makes a chav.

I think the chav distinction requires sporty clothes AND gaudy jewelry. Sporty clothes alone should be fine.
