A many Gig MP3 player (Sony have good battery life), a Bible (doesn't matter if you're religious or not - it's a long book, with good stories, typed really small so it's not too heavy!). Better still get a laptop with a roaming card - make the most of WiFi and go nuts on the Gutenberg Project - the biggest free online catalogue of books in the world. Or just download them...
Though if you're going 'round the world, then surely all you'll need is a big notepad to write all the things you've seen - take it from me, if you don't record everything you've enjoyed, it's so easy and so disappointing to forget...
Other things to do:
Try to make conversation with people you meet on the train/plane/bus
Learn a new language
Learn to play chess
Confront the thoughts you don't normally have time for (you'll be surprised how much you learn about yourself)
Photography - memories and art all in one go!
Knitting, beadwork, jewellery-making, embroidery...
Most of all, don't waste time and make time to have fun!

Why do you want to 'pass the time'? Enjoy the journey. Keep a log. Write your own book, as someone else just said.

consider
Write a journal
Observe and take photos
Read a bit about where you are going, so you have a wee plan of action
Learn a little of the language from each place
Dine on local foods
Take a wee reminder of home
Open you mind
Understand this may be your only chance to do this, so enjoy
Respect the people, cultures, traditions & laws of the countries you are visiting

Why don't you stay at home and read a very large book to pass the time. This will be much cheaper and avoid all that tiresome travel.

Music!!! Take your Mp3 if you have one, stack it with music. Also when i'm going on a really long journey I take my nintendo DSlite, that always passes the time quickly. Books will just weigh down your case!

Just enjoy! The world is beautiful enough to captivate you for seven months, I could spend seven years enjoying the beauty of this world.
