Click on Start, then Control Panel. Select Add/Remove Programs. Look for Norton and uninstall it to remove it. Do the same for McAfee. You can't have two antivirus programs on your computer without causing big problems. Once you have them removed, restart your computer. Do Start, Shutdown and Restart.
You can get either AVG or Avast! Both are good and have free versions. Go to Download.com for AVG. Avast is by Alwil Software. Get one or the other, download and install it. Then run it to be sure you have removed any possible viruses.
You probably need SpyBot and Ad-Aware. These remove malware, spyware, and other junk that gets into your computer every time you log onto the internet. they are both free and will help you keep an older computer running. Good luck!

I must disagree! You're right, McAfee sucks, but Norton has been great for me! The only thing is, a recent Yahoo format change, caused me to start getting a lot of ad pop-ups. I got a free version of Ad-Aware, and whenever I start running slow, I do an Ad-Aware scan and get rid of the problem. It has to do with tracking cookies, but it only takes a few minutes to scan and fix. If that's what your problem is, don't get rid of Norton! Yahoo is notorious for viruses, and Norton blocks it best!
