I have to say the 1986 New York Football Giants Super Bowl team.
NO QB was safe from LT, Harry Carson, and Carl Banks.
Joe Morris was unstoppable, and Phil Simms (SB XXI MVP) had a sterling season.
Not to mention Harry Carson gave birth to the Gatorade Dunk. Yes, it was the Giants that created that celebration!
At 14-2, (and beating the crap out of the 49ers 42-3 in the playoffs), that team was fantastic.

It depends on what you are defining as "best." Of course it is all subjective anyway and people's bias will have a lot to do with it...But do you mean, which team if by some miracle can play all other teams an infinite number of times would have the most wins or the team who was the most dominate in their time?

No matter how bad I think the NFL game has become lately, the best team of this current era, Patriots, would beat anytime of history in a miralce time travel game just because the size, speed, strength, etc. of the current players.

But if you want to say which team dominated an era, in my lifetime, the 49ers of the 80s and early 90s were a machine and had the offense and defense to beat any team, any time and is the one team I would not want to have to play a big game against.

As for a team for one single season who dominated the most I would either have to go with the 1985 (Super Bowl XX winner) Chicago Bears - because they were just far and away the most feared defenses. But the one team that would beat all other great teams of history, although they were not as dominate in their era, would be the Patriot team that ran off the 16 consecutive wins and multiple Super Bowls...
