Oaxaca right now is really really cheap... so you can find a car for like 100 and food for a month you can find really really cheap food like for 300 (For the month) or even less if you find good deals and gas... believe is cheaper than in the states about a litre is like 2 dollars... so good luck and have fun in Mexico!!

First thing, Oaxaca is a beautiful place to visit.
When you pass the border you will be able to bring your vehicle only if it is in your name, and you are a licensed driver. The maximum time that you can keep the car in Mexico is 6 months, as a tourist. There shouldn't be a fee, but my husband said that they might charge around $50.00 USD.
Gas is pretty much the same price. They only have one chain of gas stations, PEMEX. The gas is about $7.60 pesos per liter. So, multiply that by 4 and your talking about $2.50 USD a gallon.
As for food, if you eat with your family, you probably wont have to spend a lot of money. Restaurants are also pretty reasonable. I hope you like Mexican Food...lol.
I would plan on bringing at least $1300.00 dollars for food and entertainment, and a little extra if you want to buy some things for yourself.
Have a good time!
