Probably something to do with what was called the 'Indian (or Sepoy) Mutiny' where Indian soldiers rose up against British colonialism. The date coincides with the siege of Lucknow.

Oh and smartypants: it has nothing to do with the Battle of Balaclava. That happened in October.

It was 11 at the battle of Roukes Drift.Natal South Africia January 22 1879.
