I have never heard of Symantac handing out free firewalls!!!!!! Anyway, if you have Windows firewall, why do you want the Norton firewall at all? You can get a better 'free' firewall from the following site:
http://www.personalfirewall.comodo.com/download/CPF_Setup_2.0.0.1.exe

Clean up your hard drive by running Ad-Aware, SpyBot and your antivirus program. Then do a Disk Cleanup by clicking on Start, Programs, Accessories, System Tools and Disk Cleanup. Let it run (it just takes a few minutes.)

Norton is particularly picky about installing if it sees something it thinks is competitive, like the XP firewall. A better choice might be Windows Defender from the Windows site.

Check the Add/Remove in Control Panel. If you downloaded the Norton firewall, try uninstalling it, restart your computer and install again from your download. If that doesn't work, delete the download and download again. You may have a corrupted version of the software.

I nevertheless have acquaintances and kin who don't think that something unfastened is well worth greater suitable than something offered. yet they get much less and much less universal. Uninstall Norton, take the disc, open the door and spot how some distance you may throw it. Norton was the perfect in the marketplace, now it relatively is rubbish (and that i've got self belief packed with spyware). that's often doing something yet you never comprehend what. And it we could in nasty issues. i exploit AVG this is unfastened over the information superhighway. yet you will need spyware, a air purifier and a firewall besides (SpyBot, CCleaner, Comodo), that are all accessible over the information superhighway at free of charge. i'd propose giving those companies some funds because of the fact they're the perfect and that they are unfastened for the essential aspects of this methodology. and don't experience too undesirable, all us previous-time company clientele have been given caught procuring the undesirable Norton.

Norton firewall software isn't free - but perhaps it came packaged with your PC?

You don't even need to disable the Windows firewall to install Norton - the install process will do it for you.

As for why its not installing - you'll need to give more details about error messages etc. Impossible to answer the question without knowing more.

One thing for sure - its very very unlikely the presence of viruses etc on your computer will stop it installing.
