I should think so, we have a million pissy rules to adhere to, and when we visit their repressed countries we have even more. Its about time WE set the rules and standards, we are, after all, a damn site more civilised than their birth places, otherwise they wouldn't all want to come here sponging off us

hell no. I would not allow that at all. My school made me take it off and i fought it. They told me I needed to get my religious leaders to write letters stating it was part of my religion. After three letters they allowed me to wear it and the same day i come home, my dad tells me that they said i couldn't wear the colors that i had on my scarf!!! I was pissed, but i decided to wear dark colors anayway because my dad said that we as muslims shouldn't cause trouble since we are so stereotyped. Then after a few months I wore a beige scarf and got taken away to the principals office again. They told me not to wear color or else they will make me remove it and follow diciplinary action. They told me that beige was immodest. (YES these was some non muslim men who knew nothing about Islam telling me that i was immodest for wearing color) He kept asking if I would agree not to wear color. I was so upset but feeling trapped they made me agree. It was my Jihad. (the true meaning of jihad of peaceful protest) After awhile i realized my cousin would be coming to the school. There was no way I was gonna let them trample over anyone elses freedom of religion so I wrote to the ACLU and they told the PA CAIR and they told the Department of Justice and the Human Relations Commission and now i can wear whatever color I want and hopefully when another muslim enters our school with a scarf they wont be allowed to make her take it off. We'll see what happens next year when my cousin comes.
So to answer you question. No, i do NOT belive that the government should be allowed since it would go against the very idea of why this little country was started. what the hell is democracy then and what is the Bill of Rights?

In their personal life, Muslim women can wear veils. However at places like a courtroom, work place, surgery etc, then they should tie a headscarf but not completely cover up their face as this affects communication. People have cited examples of people who wear turbans, baseball caps etc, they are missing the point – these things do not cover the face as much as a veil does, you can still identify a person wearing a face-cap or a turban if you had to do so. With the veil, you cannot see their face apart from their eyes so it’s not the same.
Britain is a free country but it is not a Muslim state and people should obey the laws of the land. People should respect the country’s values and live by them.

Yes....in the following circumstances:
when they are in a school where school uniform is compulsory, unless the school is a Muslim faith school.
When boarding a UK bus, where some passes have photo identities so the bus driver can see the face of the passenger.....
When the women wants to teach in a mainstream UK school...
Otherwise.....on a day to day..women should be allowed to hide their faces if they so wish....but to be also aware, that under the present climate in the west....where a minority group is hell-bent on making every body's life a living nightmare....they will, in certain other circumstances, be asked by the authorities to reveal their identities..and may have to take off their veil.
I pray to the Almighty to give us all the strength and the wisdom to respect all human beings xx

There are some that would say "yes...when in Rome do like the Romans do". But this is not Rome....even though I fear we are headed the same direction.... so how any of us dress.... short of running around nude...should never be a matter of law.
If it is their belief then they should be able to do so. That is what this country was founded on. Post 9-11 we must use reasonable discretion with this but never to the point it is a matter of them never being allowed to ware it if they wish.

No, It's so humour to make muslim women take theie vails off. After september 11, most of muslims all around the world are not comfortable. When anyone recognizes a muslim in anywhere, he can not feels himself fine and safe. Why? A real muslim never harm a human or an animal. Because The God and our religion command us to like all humans (even if a human don't believe), animals and nature.

And how do you propose that this be carried out?
I personally do not like 'the veil,' nor do I like or agree with anyone being 'forced' to wear it (or anything). But if the wearer 'chooses' to wear it, or 'chooses' to adhere to a code of conduct, then they have that right.
On the other hand, if there is a Law which says, for example, that 'nothing shall be worn that obscures the face of someone entering a Bank,' then the wearer can chose to obey or to not enter the Bank.
We have just had Armistices Day, where we recognised and Remembered the MANY who spent Their Lives so that we all could live within a Democracy and with its Freedoms. One of those was the Freedom to practise our religious beliefs. Whether you or I like what we see as manifestations of a religion we don't like.........
Alternatively, would you want to live within a totalitarian state which 'Dictates' everything you can and cannot do? I don't ...though we are getting closer to it.
We no-longer burn Witches - at the moment.
Personally, I think those who wear baseball caps back to front, or wear the Pirate-type head-scarves look silly (or something approaching that), but the wearers have the right to choose such ______ head wear. Should I call for this to be 'Illegal' too?
And, I don't like the intolerance of Other religions in other countries. Should one decide to try to follow theirs there, then it could lead to a whole heap of do-do for ones self.
Sash.

Absolutley not!!!
We live in a free society, that means people of all faiths and none should be free to express there faiths in whatever way they want. As long as an individuals freedom does not infringe on the freedom of someone else then they should have that freedom protected. Wearing the veil does nothing to effect societies freedoms. The only people offended are those bigots who quite frankly deserve to be offended!

No. Not all Muslim women wear the niqab (face covering), some wear the hijab (scarf) which covers the hair but not the face.
So you are looking at a small proportion of people in this country. No one asks me to take off my coat in the street because they find it offensive, so why apply the same logic to niqabs and hijabs?
