Dude, u've not mentioned whether it's a full or part-time job u're doin' ? May be your employer has deducted more income tax from your wages or this may also be if u've not submitted your P45 form of your previous job to your new employer. The main reason is if u've got taxed more then it would mean that the tax office must have issued you a new tax code for your employment with this employer. And if this is really the reason as it should be then they are right in doing so and because if you have not given your P45 form to your new employer then they will allot a new tax code to your income tax file. Had you given the P45 form to your new employer then the new employer would send this to their company's tax office and the necessary adjustments and changes in employment would have been noted down and recorded and your tax code would have been right which would not affect on your income tax. I have also faced the same problem, similar to yours before and hence I would advise you to submit your P45 form to your new employer as soon as possible before its too late and more tax keeps deducting everytime you get your pay. Act fast!!!!
If this is your first job ever then once you get your NI number, you would be taxed on a different tax code as the tax office would not have any record of your employment and once you are allotted the right tax code then you wouldn't be taxed too much. I guess the correct tax code on your payslip will have alpha numeric letter, for e.g., 456L. Kirsty is also right in saying not to complain but to enquiry about your query. If nothing really works out or if you feel that the problem still persists then you can always take the help of citizen's advice bureau in your area. Good Luck mate...!!!

you need to tell us of the amount of hours that you have done...

Also emergency tax is worked out at 40%,

So take the figure that you have grossed divide it by 100 then times it by 40 that will tell you how much you would have paid on the very outside..

I don't believe a company of that magnitude will steal money from you as they do have bigger fish to fry, but you do have rights under employment law to discuss with a line manager any questions or queries that you may have...
